HUHRA’s Service Of Remembrance will be held at 11.15am on Sunday 9th March in the Performance Area of Liquorice Park, Lincoln, LN1 1HS, near the Alexandra Terrace entrance. As part of our commemorative service we will be creating a mini-memorial. This temporary tribute will consist of yellow laminated paper hearts, decorated and personalised by those taking part, and hung on the willow screen to make a HUHRA Hearts of Remembrance Wall. We have a variety of heart shapes already prepared for you on an A4 sheet. Just get in touch and let us know what size you would like: 1 x extra large 7.5 inch; 2 x large 5 inch; 3 x medium 4 inch; 6 x small 3 inch; or a sheet with a selection of sizes. We will then pop them through your letterbox for you to decorate at home. How you decorate them is up to you, however we suggest that you write the name of the person you are remembering on the front. A personal message to that person can also be written on the back. We can also provide a simple template for a small box in which you can hide a sealed private message. These boxes will also form part of the Hearts of Remembrance Wall. There may also be an opportunity to plant a bulb along the path leading up from Yarborough Road to Alexandra Terrace after the ceremony as a symbol of hope. If anyone can contribute some bulbs for this event please get in touch. The short service will be led by the wonderful Leena Sass; a well-known and much respected Lincoln humanist celebrant, and culminate with a National Minutes Silence at mid-day. Our event is open to anyone who would like to attend, so please help us to spread the word. For further information contact Beatrice on huhraln1@gmail.com Thank you. Amber Valley Borough Council has installed four commemorative ‘Daffodil’ benches across the borough in recognition of the Covid-19 Day of Reflection on Sunday 9 March 2025. Installed in some of the borough’s most peaceful locations, these benches offer a special place for remembrance and quiet reflection. They can be found at Alfreton Welfare Recreation Ground, Belper River Gardens, Charles Hill in Loscoe, and Crossley Park in Ripley – each chosen for their tranquil surroundings and accessibility to the community. Each bench features an engraved plaque with the inscription: “This bench was installed for the 2025 Covid-19 Day of Reflection. May it offer a place for reflection and remembrance, in memory of all those we lost during the Covid-19 pandemic – they are never forgotten. Scan the QR code to view our online Book of Remembrance.” The QR code directs visitors to an online Book of Remembrance, where residents can leave personal messages in memory of loved ones. The daffodil, a symbol of renewal and new beginnings, is at the heart of these benches. Blooming each spring, daffodils represent resilience and the promise of brighter days – just as these benches serve as a lasting reminder of the strength of our communities and the lives we will never forget. Their distinctive and elegant design sets them apart from standard council benches, offering a unique space for residents to pause, reflect, and remember. The benches were officially installed ahead of the Covid-19 Day of Reflection, and on Friday 7 March, a gathering was held to mark their significance. The Mayor of Amber Valley, accompanied by the Mayoress, was joined by the Deputy Mayor, fellow town and deputy Mayors, the Leader and Deputy Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council, and the Chief Executive of the Council. Together, they visited the sites, pausing for a moment of reflection to acknowledge the impact of the pandemic and the importance of these benches as lasting places of remembrance and solace. Amber Valley Borough Council is proud to support the Covid-19 Day of Reflection, ensuring our communities have a meaningful way to commemorate this chapter in our shared history. For further details or to visit the Book of Remembrance, please visit www.ambervalley.gov.uk/covid19reflection.

The civic heart of Liverpool – and one of Britain’s most beloved buildings – is to become the city’s focal point for remembering the Covid-19 pandemic. To commemorate five years since the pandemic began, a national Covid-19 Day of Reflection will take place on Sunday, 9 March. In Liverpool, the Great Hall in St George’s Hall will be transformed into a special space for people to visit, remember those we lost, acknowledge and celebrate all the acts of kindness that took place across our communities and reflect on the profound impact of the pandemic on our everyday lives. The stunning venue will be beautifully illuminated by paper lanterns, representing the challenges people lived with throughout the pandemic – whether that be the loss of a loved one, isolation, economic hardship or mental health struggles, but also acknowledging the tremendous resilience shown throughout. A gentle and poignant soundscape will play, creating an ambience for quiet contemplation, and a Book of Commemoration will allow people to leave a message of reflection if they wish to do so. Members of the public are invited to reflect on their experiences and memories within the Grade I listed neo-classical masterpiece, situated off Lime Street, which will be open from 10am-4pm for this unique event. The event has been organised by Liverpool City Council and the lanterns will be supplied by local arts organisation, the Lantern Company. For more information, visit St George’s Hall website.

A poignant photographic collection documenting and highlighting the profound impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children and young people worldwide. The project, spearheaded by documentary photographer Maria Reaney, brings together 16 artists from internationally diverse backgrounds to shed light on the social and emotional challenges faced by children during lockdowns and thereafter. Through a genuine and authentic female lens, the images capture the experiences and stories of young people navigating a disrupted world. From the closure of schools and public spaces, to the upheaval of daily routines, the photographs reflect a spectrum of emotions – boredom, longing, contemplation, playfulness, curiosity, and frustration. In a time marked by unprecedented mental health challenges for children, this collection has become a powerful historical document, highlighting the psychological strain of the pandemic, whilst also reminding us of our resilience and celebrating the simple joys that were also found. The project aims to not only foster compassion and understanding for mental health but also to spark essential conversations and empathy around our feelings and emotions. Human beings are social creatures and once our critical requirements for growth are taken away, our minds and bodies respond with an increased requirement for interaction, love and support. As the legendary Birmingham poet, the late Benjamin Zephaniah stated, “People need people”. The exhibition is now open and runs until Saturday 19 April 2025. Sunday 09 March, open from 11:00 – 16:00

Join us for a special celebration event to mark the premiere screening of Toll at Wick Harbour Fish Mart. This screening will be accompanied by food and drinks with music from Ady Harper and Gordon Gunn. The Toll blacksmiths and bell makers, David Snoo Wilson and Daniel Freyne will also join us with their traveling foundry with a special live bell pour to commemorate the project finale and opening of the film installation. In 2024 artists Sinéad Hargan, Cat Meighan and Hector MacInnes created a mass participation artwork involving the carrying and ringing of multiple folded-steel bells. Each bell was stamped with a statement of reflection or response to the covid-19 pandemic, collected from highland communities including NHS workers, school children and the Highland Senior Citizens Network. Our Toll bells travelled over 1500 miles across our diverse Highland landscape, up Knockfarrel and Stac Pollaidh, on the Nigg, Corran and Armadale ferries, rowed across Loch Morlich, cycled to Wick Harbour, rung inside Castle Varrich and attended a ceilidh in Kilmuir Hall. The bells have been in rivers, harbours, bogs, seas, they’ve been carried through mist, rain and some sunshine too. They’ve met Highlanders who have experienced loss, joy, anger, peace and everything in-between. They have been rung quietly in forests and community gardens and they’ve been rung loudly on high school football pitches and primary school playgrounds. The Toll film is a visually and sonically explorative installation that follows the journey of the Toll bells and reflects on the Highland experience of the pandemic, celebrating spaces of community gathering and resilience. The Toll film will be accompanied by a short documentary about the making of the project and our journey across the Highlands. Tickets are free but booking is required. This is a working harbour warehouse and will not be heated so please dress warm and wear layers. For access / wheelchair and mobility scooter requirements please contact info@lytharts.org.uk.
