Community groups

During and after the pandemic, people across the UK formed community groups to campaign, promote remembrance and offer support for those who lost loved ones. 

Many of these groups were consulted as part of the UK Commission for COVID-19 Commemoration and as part of the Day of Reflection. 

You’ll find a list of these groups on this page, some of which are private Facebook communities managed by members of the public. 

National Covid Memorial Wall

Friends of the Wall is a team of bereaved volunteers who have cared for and maintained the National Covid Memorial Wall since the summer of 2021. If you have lost a loved one to COVID-19, you can add a dedication to them on their memorial page.

Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK

An umbrella campaign group of nearly 7,000 bereaved people across the UK. There are a number of groups representing families in different areas across the UK.

Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice, Cymru- Facebook

Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice, Cymru represents all those bereaved by COVID-19 in Wales.

Scottish Covid Bereaved- Facebook

Scottish Covid Bereaved (formerly Covid-19 Families for Justice, Scotland) is a justice group with approximately 200 members. 

Covid-19 Families UK- Facebook

A national network of support groups across the UK for those bereaved by COVID-19 and experiencing other grief during the pandemic.

Covid-19 Families Scotland-Facebook

Covid-19 Families Scotland is a support group for those in Scotland bereaved by COVID-19 and experiencing other grief during the pandemic.

Yellow Hearts to Remember- Facebook

An online community with over 7,000 members that invites people to remember loved ones together by sharing yellow hearts in their windows.

Yellow Hearts Wales- Facebook

Yellow Hearts Wales was started by a family who built a personal memorial from stones on a Welsh mountainside. The group then asked for the names of others who died in the pandemic, which were written on flagstones and added to the Yellow Heart Memorial.

Memory Stones of Love, Northern Ireland- Facebook

Memory Stones of Love create and display painted stones for Northern Irish families to remember their loved ones who died during the pandemic.
